shockwave therapy
Treating the source of chronic pain.
If you have a chronic injury which has not responded to traditional treatments, Shockwave Therapy may be the piece of the puzzle you are missing to help you recover.
At Resolution, we believe that Physiotherapy should produce results, fast, and want our clients to have access to numerous effective treatment methods to help ensure their success.
We are excited to include Shockwave Therapy in the long list of advanced treatment techniques we offer our clients.
It is common for us to hear that clients have heard of Shockwave Therapy and debated trying this effective treatment modality but were hesitant due to the high cost of this type of treatment.
At Resolution Physiotherapy & IMS Clinic in Barrie, we believe that cost should not limit our clients' access to effective treatments and therefore we are offering Shockwave Therapy at no additional charge.

HOW DOES SHOCKWAVE THERAPY WORK?
Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT) accelerates the healing process in the body by stimulating metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue. This is accomplished when Radial Shockwaves, which are like vibratory sound waves, are transmitted into a client's tissue.
We often describe Shockwave Therapy as "massaging from the inside out" as vibrational Radial Shockwaves penetrate deep into muscle tissue, into areas we cannot reach with traditional manual therapies.
Vibrational Shockwaves create micro-cavitation bubbles deep in the tissue that expand and burst, and stimulate healing. Shockwaves also help your body grow new blood vessels in areas which may have had compromised blood supply due to prolonged adhesion and myofascial tension, allowing healing products to better access these areas.
Other benefits of Shockwave Therapy include tissue renewal through the stimulation of collagen regeneration and breaking down of calcification which may be causing pain and delaying healing with chronic injuries.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF SHOCKWAVE THERAPY?
Scar tissue & calcification reduction
Sound wave vibration, produced by Shockwave Therapy, causes tissue micro-fragmentation, produces tensile stress in the tissue, and creates micro-cavitation bubbles, all of which reduce scar tissue, can break up calcific deposits in chronic tendinopathy and improves recovery.
Collagen Tissue Stimulation & Formation
Shockwave Therapy accelerates collagen synthesis which helps accelerate tissue healing. Shockwave therapy also helps align collagen fibres to help maximize tendon, muscle, and ligamentous strength.
Tissue healing acceleration
Shockwave Therapy stimulates production of fibroblasts, stem cells, and growth factors which accelerate destruction of damaged tissue and promote healing in tendons, ligaments, skin, nerves and bones.
Bone regeneration and healing
Shockwave Therapy stimulates production of osteoblasts, bone growth factors, and nitrous oxide which contribute to osteogenesis and bone healing.
Circulation enhancement and new blood vessel growth
Shockwave Therapy stimulates angiogenesis, which is the growth of new blood vessels in chronically inflamed tissue, leading to improved circulation and oxygenation to tissue, helping to reduce pain and improve tissue healing.
Pain reduction through neural effects
Shockwave Therapy stimulates pain-inhibiting chemicals including Substance P which reduce pain. This treatment also decreases the production of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), leading to reduced joint and arthritic pain. Reduction of de-myelinated nerve fibres, another effect of Shockwave Therapy, helps reduce pain super-sensitivity with chronic disorders.
Acute Inflammation reduction
Shockwave Therapy alters levels of substance P & CGRP which impacts acute inflammation at a cellular level and improves rate of healing.
Chronic inflammation reduction
Shockwave Therapy stimulates mast cells which lead to the release of numerous pro-inflammatory mediators which help restore the normal healing and regeneration process, helping the process of injury repair to finish properly and inflammation to stop.
Release of Trigger Points & Myofascial Tension
Shockwave Therapy helps reverse the metabolic crisis in the muscle fibres that contribute to trigger points and myofascial tension. Trigger points are tight bands/nodules that contribute to pain in the back, neck, shoulder and limbs. Tight trigger points lead to a reduced circulation in that area which leads to a build up of waste products and pain. Shockwave can release the tension in the trigger points, resolving the circulatory block and waste product build up and reduce pain.
